Dr Cathryn Hickey

Cathryn is a member of the Alpha Academies Trust.

Cathryn is the Chief Executive of AMRICC, a wholely owned subsidiary of Lucideon, the materials development and commercialisation company based in the City. She works with companies to help them develop new materials for their products to meet future manufacturing challenges, including the move to lower carbon emissions and the use of battery technologies.

She has previously worked in a number of organisations across the commercial and public sector. This included with Shell UK Petroleum Company where she lead the technical team developing and bringing new fuels and lubricants to the market.

Cathryn has had a long interest in developing education and skills to meet employers’ needs, including having worked for Learndirect to implement the availability of online learning, and SummitSkills to provide skills and training for the Building Services Engineering sector, including setting up a National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies. She has also held a number of board positions in schools and universities.

With a 1st class honours degree and PhD in Chemistry from Sheffield University, Cathryn has always been a strong advocate for the development of STEM skills and training at all levels. She is currently working across the city to develop applied materials training, including leading the development of a degree apprenticeship.
